About the Notice Period Calculator

Length of service is judged at the date notice is given. For 1 week you need 6 months or less of service; for 2 weeks, more than 6 months but under a year; for 4 weeks, a year or more. Domestic and farm workers get 4 weeks once they pass 6 months. A collective agreement can reduce the four-week period to no less than two weeks, so check yours.

Section 38 lets an employer pay the notice period instead of requiring you to work it. Maternity benefits are claimed from the UIF: use the UIF payout calculator and choose the maternity benefit type. See also the severance pay calculator and the leave days calculator.
