Answer first

How does bank statement to xero import prep work?

Upload a digital or readable scanned bank statement PDF. Accounter extracts the transaction rows and, where the bank prints a running balance, checks them against it. You review the rows before exporting a CSV.

Accounter doesn't connect to Xero directly: you import the reviewed CSV using Xero's bank statement import.

How it works

Workflow

  1. Upload the statement PDF.
  2. Let AI extraction read the transaction table.
  3. Review dates, descriptions, debits, credits, and balances.
  4. Export CSV and prepare the import destination.

Review checklist

  • Confirm date format and currency.
  • Check split debit/credit columns.
  • Remove duplicate header rows if your import tool requires it.
  • Keep the original PDF for audit support.

Import preparation

  • Review the CSV before import.
  • Map description, date, debit, credit, and balance columns.
  • Keep bank fees and reversals visible for reconciliation.

Scanned statement notes

  • Accounter can attempt readable scanned statements.
  • Original PDFs usually give cleaner extraction.
  • Manual review is required before relying on imported rows.
