About the CIMA

CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) is the world's largest management accounting body, now operating in partnership with AICPA under the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants. CIMA focuses on management accounting, business strategy, risk management, and financial planning — as opposed to the audit and financial reporting focus of CA(SA) or ACCA. In South Africa, CIMA is particularly valued in corporate environments, manufacturing, banking, and industries where budgeting, costing, and strategic decision-making are central. The CGMA designation is recognised globally and is highly regarded by employers seeking finance professionals who can drive business performance.

Entry Requirements

  • National Senior Certificate (matric) with Mathematics, or equivalent
  • A relevant degree or diploma can provide exemptions for up to 9 papers
  • No degree required to start at the Certificate level
  • Business-oriented mindset — CIMA focuses on management accounting and business strategy
