About This Template

A payslip made for people who employ a domestic worker (a cleaner, nanny, gardener or caregiver in a private home). It follows the contents section 33 of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act asks for: the employer's and worker's details, the pay period, the hours worked, the hourly and overtime rates, each deduction and its purpose, and the amount actually paid. Enter the hours and the hourly rate and the sheet works out ordinary pay, overtime, UIF and net pay, and tracks annual and sick leave taken and left. The minimum hourly rate it checks against is R30.23 from 1 March 2026; it changes on 1 March 2027.

Who Is This For?

Households and small employers who pay a domestic worker monthly, weekly or per day and want a correct written payslip without payroll software. Also useful to bookkeepers who prepare payslips for several households.

How to Use This Template

  1. 1Download the Excel file. It also opens in Google Sheets.
  2. 2Fill in your details as the employer and the worker's name and occupation, then the pay period.
  3. 3Enter the hourly rate (it must not be below the minimum wage on the Rates sheet) the ordinary and overtime hours, the Sunday hours and the public holidays worked.
  4. 4Check the UIF line. It is deducted only when the worker works 24 hours or more a month for you; override it if your UIF registration says otherwise.
  5. 5Record leave taken this period and earlier in the leave cycle to see the balance.
  6. 6Save a copy per worker per month, then print or save as PDF and give it to the worker when you pay.

Why South African Businesses Need This

Section 33 of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act requires a written payslip each time you pay, including for domestic workers. The minimum wage for domestic workers is R30.23 per hour from 1 March 2026, and a new rate normally applies from 1 March 2027, so the template keeps the rate in one cell you can update.
