Creating a Special Account

To create a new special account, simply click the New Special Account button.

If your newly created special account already possesses an existing balance, you can configure its starting balance by navigating to Settings, then selecting Starting Balances. Refer to the Starting Balances รขย€ย” Special Accounts guide for more information.

Special Accounts Tab Columns

The Special Accounts tab consists of several informative columns to help organize and review account details. Each column serves a specific purpose:

Code

Displays the designated code of the individual special account.

Name

Displays the name of the special account.

Control account

Shows the control account under which the special account has been grouped. By default, special accounts appear within a built-in control account named Special Accounts. However, Accounter lets you create customized control accounts, allowing you to classify special accounts separately on your balance sheet according to your organization's structure and accounting needs. See the Control Accounts guide for further detail.

Division

Displays the division associated with each special account. If your organization is not utilizing divisional accounting, this column remains empty. Refer to Divisions for additional information.

Balance

Provides the net total balance calculated from all debits and credits posted to the special account. By clicking on the amount in this column, you can access a detailed list of transactions contributing to this balance.

Customizing Columns and Advanced Queries

You can customize the columns displayed in the Special Accounts tab to better align with your accounting preferences. Simply click on the Edit columns button to rearrange or select the columns you want to see.

For detailed instructions, read the Edit columns guide.

Additionally, the Advanced Queries functionality allows you powerful data analysis. For example, if you handle diverse types of special accounts, you can define advanced queries to effortlessly filter accounts based on particular criteria. For further details, refer to Advanced Queries.
