Production Orders

Manage the manufacturing process by tracking the conversion of raw materials into finished goods.

Overview

The Production Orders tab helps you manage the manufacturing process by tracking the conversion of raw materials into finished goods. This feature enables efficient production planning, inventory management, and cost tracking throughout your manufacturing operations.

Note

Production orders are essential for manufacturers to track material consumption, production costs, and finished goods inventory accurately.

Creating a New Production Order

To create a new production order:

  1. Navigate to the Production Orders tab
  2. Click New Production Order
  3. Select the finished item to be produced
  4. Enter the quantity to produce
  5. Choose the inventory location
  6. Review the Bill of Materials (BOM)
  7. Save the production order

Pro Tip

Before creating a production order, ensure you have a Bill of Materials (BOM) set up, verify sufficient raw materials are available, and confirm production capacity.

Key Information Fields

FieldDescription
DateIndicates when the production order was created
ReferenceProvides the reference number for the production order
DescriptionShows a short description summarizing the production order
Inventory LocationIdentifies the inventory location associated with the production order
Finished ItemDisplays the name of the inventory item that is produced
QtyShows the quantity of the finished item produced
Total CostIndicates the total cost associated with production
StatusReflects the current state of the production order

Production Status

The status column reflects the current state of each production order:

Completed

The production order has successfully allocated all inventory items listed in the Bill of Materials. All raw materials have been consumed and finished goods have been produced.

Insufficient Quantity

Indicates inventory shortage or incomplete allocation. This occurs when there aren't enough raw materials available to complete the production order.

Warning

Production orders with "Insufficient Quantity" status require attention. Check your raw material inventory levels and purchase orders to ensure production can be completed.

Best Practices

  • Maintain accurate Bills of Materials for all products
  • Plan production schedules in advance
  • Monitor raw material lead times and availability
  • Consider production capacity constraints when creating orders
  • Track production costs regularly
  • Monitor production order status consistently
  • Review material consumption patterns
  • Analyze production efficiency metrics
  • Ensure proper inventory locations are configured
  • Document any changes to production processes

Pro Tip

Using production orders enables accurate tracking of inventory consumption, production costs, and manufacturing progress while maintaining clear visibility into operations.
