Inventory Kits

Bundle multiple inventory items together as kits for easier sales and inventory management.

Overview

Inventory Kits allow you to group multiple inventory items together as a single unit, making it easier to sell bundles and track component inventory levels.

This feature is particularly useful for businesses that sell product bundles, gift sets, or products that are commonly purchased together, allowing for streamlined sales processes and accurate inventory tracking.

Kit Benefits

Using inventory kits provides several advantages for your business:

  • Simplified bundle sales - Sell multiple items as one product with a single SKU
  • Automatic component tracking - Inventory levels update automatically for all components
  • Bulk inventory management - Manage multiple related items efficiently
  • Streamlined pricing - Set bundle pricing that may include discounts
  • Enhanced customer experience - Offer convenient product combinations
  • Improved inventory visibility - See which components are limiting kit availability

Creating Inventory Kits

To create and configure inventory kits:

  1. Navigate to SettingsInventory Kits
  2. Click New Kit to create a new inventory kit
  3. Enter a descriptive name and code for the kit
  4. Add component items from your existing inventory
  5. Set quantities for each component in the kit
  6. Configure kit pricing (can be sum of components or custom pricing)
  7. Set minimum and maximum stock levels for the kit
  8. Save and activate the kit for sales

Note

Consider whether to price kits at a discount compared to individual items to encourage bundle purchases and increase average order value.

Kit Configuration Options

When setting up inventory kits, you can configure:

ConfigurationDescription
Kit Name & CodeUnique identifier and description for the kit
Component ItemsIndividual inventory items included in the kit
Component QuantitiesHow many of each component per kit
Pricing MethodSum of components or custom kit pricing
Stock LevelsMinimum and maximum inventory thresholds

Kit Management

Once kits are created, ongoing management includes:

  • Monitor component availability - Track which components are limiting kit sales
  • Update kit compositions - Add, remove, or change component quantities
  • Track kit sales performance - Analyze which kits are most popular
  • Manage kit inventory levels - Set appropriate stock thresholds
  • Handle component substitutions - Manage cases where components change
  • Price optimization - Adjust pricing to improve margins or sales volume

Inventory Tracking

Kit inventory is automatically calculated based on component availability:

  • Available kits - Limited by the component with lowest availability
  • Component deduction - Selling a kit reduces component inventory automatically
  • Reorder alerts - Notifications when components need restocking
  • Cost tracking - Kit costs calculated from component costs

Pro Tip

Set up alerts for when component inventory levels are low to prevent kit stockouts and ensure continuous availability.

Best Practices

  • Use descriptive kit names - Make it easy to identify kit contents
  • Regular inventory level monitoring - Keep track of component availability
  • Optimize kit pricing strategies - Balance profitability with customer value
  • Keep component lists updated - Ensure components remain current and available
  • Track kit profitability - Monitor margins and costs for each kit
  • Plan for seasonal demand - Adjust kit offerings based on sales patterns
  • Test kit combinations - Experiment with different product bundles
  • Document kit purposes - Record why specific combinations were created
